Day 21: Chasing Waterfalls Through the Rain

Today was supposed to be a relaxing day. The plan was simple: sleep in, take it easy, and enjoy a lighter schedule. Amazingly, I actually followed the plan and got to sleep in for a change.

After checking out of the hotel, I headed to Black Eagle Falls near Great Falls, Montana. The falls were pretty impressive, but unfortunately the weather was doing its best impression of a car wash. The rain was absolutely relentless.

Next up was Rainbow Falls, also near Great Falls. Despite the rain, it was another nice stop. Between the waterfalls and the Missouri River, there was certainly no shortage of water today. In fact, there may have been too much water.

I also attempted to visit the Great Falls of the Missouri River, sometimes called Big Falls. Unfortunately, my GPS and I had a disagreement about where it was located. The GPS seemed confident. I was confident. We were both wrong. After driving around and making a few questionable turns, I finally admitted defeat and moved on. Somewhere out there, Big Falls is probably still waiting for me.

The rest of the day consisted of a very long drive north through Montana and into Canada. The scenery looked beautiful whenever I could see it through the rain.

Crossing the border into Canada was fairly painless. Customs was not bad at all, although the officers were not quite as friendly as the ones I encountered on my first two visits, but at least they let me in. 😎

I am now in Alberta, Canada after a long day of driving through rain, more rain, and occasionally some extra rain just to keep things interesting.

Tomorrow I will be exploring Waterton Lakes National Park. The forecast is calling for, you guessed it, more rain. The good news is that the weather is supposedly going to start clearing sometime on Wednesday.

For now, the adventure continues. I have crossed deserts, mountains, lakes, canyons, forests, and international borders. Apparently, the final challenge is surviving the Great North American Rainstorm.
