Day 24: The Three Sisters Mountains, Friends, and Walking in Calgary

Today I woke up in my hotel room in Canmore, looked out the window, and was greeted by the Three Sisters. What an amazing sight to start the day. One of the sisters was playing a little game of hide-and-seek with the clouds, but all three were still incredibly impressive. The Three Sisters are probably the most recognizable mountains in Canmore, and having that view right outside my window was pretty special.

I met my friend Bob and his wife Pauline for breakfast at the Rocky Mountain Bagel Company in Canmore. I had lox and cream cheese on a sesame seed bagel, and it was excellent. We ended up spending nearly three hours talking and catching up. It is amazing how quickly time passes when you're with good friends.

Bob and Pauline were heading back toward Seattle, while I was heading east to Calgary. It was great seeing them. We used to have lunch together most Thursdays when Bob lived in Florida, so it felt like old times, just with significantly better mountain views.

After arriving in Calgary, I met up with my friend Lorraine, who runs an Airbnb. We spent the afternoon catching up and talking before taking a walk to the top of a hill overlooking downtown Calgary and the Saddledome.

The sun was on the wrong side of the buildings, so we did not get the spectacular sunset we were hoping for, but the view was still very impressive. Calgary has a beautiful skyline, and seeing it from above gave me a whole new appreciation for the city.

Not long after I arrived, Mother Nature decided to put on a show. A hailstorm rolled through, and for a few minutes it sounded like someone was dumping buckets of ice cubes onto the roof. Fortunately, it did not last very long, but it was fun to watch.

One thing I continue to find amazing is how late it stays light here. Back home, people are getting ready for bed. Here, people are still out taking pictures, walking, biking, and enjoying the evening. It feels like the day just keeps going.

Tomorrow should be another great day. I'll be having lunch with friends before heading to the Calgary Stampeders versus Winnipeg Blue Bombers game with my friend Twyla. This will be my first Canadian Football League game, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it compares to football back home.  Then onto a spiritual retreat for the weekend.
