Today was an exceptionally great day. I am in Cochrane, Alberta, attending a spiritual retreat, and it turned out to be one of the most peaceful and rewarding days of the trip.
The retreat itself was excellent, with plenty of time for reflection, conversation, and simply slowing down for a change. I missed some of the morning retreat as I slept until almost 10:00 a.m. After weeks of driving, sightseeing, and constantly being on the move, it was nice to spend a day focused on something spiritual.
One of the highlights was a beautiful walking trail that featured the Stations of the Cross, or as they referred to it, the Way of the Cross. Along the trail were several impressive statues and places to stop and reflect. The walk itself was peaceful, but what made it even more special were the incredible views.
Every time I turned around, there were the Canadian Rockies.
Mountains. More mountains. And then even more mountains.
The views were absolutely spectacular. I found myself stopping more than once just to take it all in. At this point, I think it is safe to say I am completely in love with the Canadian Rockies.
I know, I have probably mentioned that about 87 times already! But in my defense, have you seen them?
The combination of the peaceful retreat setting, the beautiful trail, the statues, and the mountain views made for a truly memorable day. It was one of those days that reminds you to slow down occasionally and appreciate where you are.
One of the best parts of the retreat was getting to reconnect with many old friends and also meet some new ones. It was wonderful catching up with people I had not seen in a while and getting to know others for the first time. Everyone was welcoming, friendly, and easy to talk to. From the moment I arrived, I felt right at home. There is something special about being surrounded by good people who share similar spiritual values and experiences.
Tomorrow I will be here for the morning before heading back to Calgary for a music festival. Given how unpredictable this trip has been, I have no idea what adventures await, but I am looking forward to finding out.
